How to Play
The Rust Challenge is a photo treasure hunt around Cyprus. Each riddle and close-up photograph below points to a real location featuring weathered metal, from shipwrecks to sculptures.
- Solve a clue. Use the riddles and photographs below to work out where to go.
- Find it and take a photo. Your photograph must show you and the discovery. Follow the viewpoint instructions in each clue and stay in publicly accessible areas.
- Send us your discoveries. Each different verified location earns one entry in the draw for a seven-night Cyprus stay. You can start with just one.

Clue 02
Near sea caves where the waters gleam,
I rest beneath the sun’s warm beam.
Beyond the bay, I lost my way,
And on the rocks I’m forced to stay.
No captain now, no cargo crew—
Just rusty steel beside the blue.

Clue 03
Above the Akamas, high and wide,
A village watches from the hillside.
Ineia’s paths will lead you through
To weathered steel that frames the blue.
I point nowhere, yet show a view;
My rusty frame waits for you.
Stand beside me, sea behind;
Capture yourself beside your find.
Clue 04
Where copper once lay underground,
The clang of iron wheels would sound.
I carried ore along the track;
My working days aren’t coming back.
Now empty wagons, red with rust,
Recall a life of rock and dust.
Upon a bridge, I stand in line,
A lonesome train from another time.
With me behind you, take your frame—
Another find to mark your game.
Clue 05
Above a city by the sea,
Legs of steel still carry me.
Where castle streets meet harbour blue,
Look inland for a rusty view.
My head stands forty metres high;
I once kept taps from running dry.
Stand where your lens can frame us two—
My towering legs and little you.
Clue 06
Angled steel cuts through the blue,
Rust has changed my former hue.
I lifted copper from below,
From depths where daylight cannot go.
Around my feet, the earth turned red;
My working years have long since fled.
Stay outside and frame the scene,
With you beside my weathered beam.
Clue 07
The sea has eaten through my skin,
Left ragged holes where light slips in.
Near ancient tombs where kings sleep,
Upon a reef, my watch I keep.
There is no path to reach my side;
Between us lies a stretch of tide.
From land, capture us together—
You and me, through years of weather.
Clue 08
I reach from land across the foam,
Yet never leave my coastal home.
Copper passed along my spine,
Brought down from a hillside mine.
On northwest shores, my rails run straight;
The ships have gone, but still I wait.

I carried neighbours far and near;
Now only branches gather here.
Between two coasts, the road climbs high;
The village has a lower side.
Seek its upper half instead,
Where rust creeps through my cream and red.
A tower sends out calls nearby;
I stand beneath the open sky.

Clue 10
Near empty hotels by the bay,
Crowded streets fell still one day.
I quenched the thirst of passing cars,
My canopy now wears its scars.
A memory of gasoline,
My faded name survives the scene.
Within this town’s unfinished page,
Seek Petrolina, worn with age.
With my old canopy in view,
Take a shot that shows us two.
Clue 11
Along the path beside the sea,
Near Alykes, look for me.
I gripped the seabed, holding fast,
While overhead the vessels passed.
Now raised beside a palm-lined shore,
I feel the ocean’s pull no more.
With heavy links around my feet,
I watch the waves from my retreat.
Stand on the path beside my chain;
Let both of us fill up the frame.

Along the Molos, by the sea,
A wave stands still for all to see.
No wind can make my curve unroll;
Within my arms, a silver soul.
While breakers tumble, rise and fall,
I hold my shape through every squall.
Salt air has weathered my embrace,
Yet sunlight dances on my face.

The prize
One winner receives a seven-night stay at any one of our six Zima Cyprus properties, subject to availability. Accommodation only; travel is not included.
Competition Rules & Privacy
Competition period: 15 October 2026–30 April 2027. All times are Cyprus local time.
Competition dates
Entries open at 00:00 on 15 October 2026 and close at 11:59 p.m. on 30 April 2027. Submit your photos or Instagram post message before the closing time. Manual verification may finish after the deadline; please allow 24 hours for review. Late submissions and test messages do not count. The prize draw will take place after entries close; its date will be announced on this page.
Who can enter
Entrants must be 18 or over. Cyprus residents and visitors may participate where lawful. People directly involved in organizing the competition and members of their household cannot enter. The entrant must personally appear in each submitted discovery photo.
Free entry & verification
No entry fee, purchase, booking, paid attraction admission or social-media follow is required. Your own travel and mobile-data costs are not reimbursed. Submit genuine photos you have permission to use, taken from lawful public access points. Do not trespass, climb structures, enter restricted sites or take risks to obtain a photograph.
Each different verified location earns one entry, up to thirteen. Completing all thirteen earns thirteen additional entries: 26 total, not 39. Reposting, multiple accounts or submitting the same location through both Instagram and WhatsApp does not add entries. Use the same name and contact details throughout. Group photos are allowed, but each adult must submit their own entry and be identifiable. Altered images that falsely show a visit, copied photos and fraudulent entries will be rejected.
We confirm accepted locations and the entry total by message. A tag or opening WhatsApp alone is not confirmation. Submit before the closing deadline and allow 24 hours for review; contact us if confirmation is missing. Verification after the deadline does not disqualify a submission received on time.
The prize
One winner receives seven consecutive nights at one of Zima Blue, Zima Edge, Zima East, Zima Park, Zima Two or Zima Cove. The winner chooses from available properties and dates and stays as a member of the party. Guest numbers must remain within that property’s published capacity. The stay must be completed within twelve months of accepting the prize, with dates agreed directly with Zima Cyprus before travel is booked.
The prize covers accommodation, standard cleaning and mandatory accommodation charges. Flights, transfers, meals, insurance, visas and personal spending are excluded. There is no cash alternative; the prize cannot be sold or transferred. Published property house rules apply. No purchase or payment is required to claim the prize.
Choosing & contacting the winner
After the announced deadline, one winning entry will be selected randomly from all verified entries, with an independent witness. Each entry has an equal chance; a person’s chance depends on their verified entry total and the total number received. We contact the selected entrant using the details they supplied, from @zimabluecyprus or one of the WhatsApp numbers below.
The selected entrant has seven calendar days to respond and confirm eligibility. If they decline, cannot be reached or are ineligible, another random draw will be made. We will never request a payment or card details to release the prize. The winner’s first name and last initial will be announced after acceptance; further identifying information or publicity photographs require separate permission.
Your information & photos
Zima Cyprus uses your name, contact details, submitted photos and verified clue record to administer the competition, prevent duplicate entries, contact the winner and arrange the prize. Information is shared only with people administering these tasks and the messaging providers you choose. The website does not upload photos or create an entry database: you attach photographs in Instagram or WhatsApp.
You retain ownership of your photos. Entry permits us to review them; it does not give permission to reuse them in advertising. Any promotional reuse requires separate agreement. Competition details will not be added to a marketing list without a separate opt-in. Avoid including other identifiable people without their permission.
Contact us through either WhatsApp number below to request access, correction, withdrawal or deletion. Entry records are kept until the prize is fulfilled and then for up to 90 days for queries, unless a legal obligation or unresolved dispute requires longer retention. Booking records and messages retained independently by Instagram or WhatsApp follow the applicable separate retention rules.
